My Practice

I've always been fascinated by humanity and have been compelled  to help people live more fulfilling lives.  I've served as chapter president of Amnesty International, volunteered with UNICEF, manifested dreams with Make-a-Wish, and connected community at Common Ground.  Professionally, I've answered my calling by seeking careers as a teacher (helping people central--in theory anyway!) and as a writer whose words have the potential to enlighten and inspire.  Even though these activities are not overtly spiritual, they're all part of my ministry.  I chose to be ordained by the Universal Life Church because it gives me a forum to legally expand my practice by officiating ceremonies and offering Reiki and spiritual counseling/oracle card readings.  Most recently, I've also expanded my practice by contributing to the blog and upcoming TBS television series Being Brice.

Reiki and Spiritual Counseling

Reiki is an ancient form of hands-on-healing.  I think of it as applied prayer or pro-active meditation that directs positive energy toward a particular person or group.  I define spiritual counseling as the act of providing advice that will help people see themselves more clearly and, as a result, change their actions to reflect their true identities.  I unintentionally started my career as a spiritual counselor when I began attending parties in college.  Most of my friends would bring alcohol, food, or instruments.  However, not being a big drinker, chef, or musician, I'd walk in with a deck of oracle cards and offer to do readings just for fun.  People would end up thanking me for helping them see themselves.

My Philosopy

As a minister of spiritual living, I encourage people to, first and foremost, be themselves.  Know your darkness.  See your light.  Accept all parts of yourself, and then take responsibility for who you are.

My Major Spiritual Influences

Sera Beak (Spiritual Cowgirl and Redvolutionary!  I found Sera via My Crazy Sexy  Life when she wrote a blog inspired by Buffy the Vampire Slayer.)

Ralph Waldo Emerson (Transcendentalist Guru.)

Einstein (Yes.  The famous scientist is actually a spiritual influence for me!)

Brice Elizabeth (I have known Brice since we were 4 and attending the Montessori School of Rome together.  When she re-appeared in Georgia after a long stint in Los Angeles and shared the news the she is a spiritual medium, it came as little surprise.  Since then, she has inspired me and many others via her blog and upcoming TBS television series Being Brice.)
